Postecoglou nearing departure after poor Spurs hand Chelsea a ‘catalyst’ with £5m Sancho decision enticing

Ange Postecoglou appears to be in a dire situation, as the Europa League rescue seems improbable following Spurs’ absence against Chelsea, who ought to cover the costs for sending Jadon Sancho back to Manchester United...  Chelsea's lackluster display against Arsenal raised doubts about their desire to win, as Enzo Maresca's team seemingly let their London competitors secure a comfortable victory.  This poor performance resulted in Chelsea having the same points total as Manchester United since their pursuit of the Premier League title began to fade in mid-December.  During this period, Spurs have fared even worse since only Championship-bound Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town have garnered fewer points in 2025 than Postecoglou’s team in the Premier League.  Tottenham’s injury issues are a relevant factor, but even their makeshift squad has significantly underachieved and failed to show up in far too many matches this season.  Their injury concerns h...

Who are the leading scorers of 2025? Dembele continues to be in front of Mbappe and Haaland.

Viktor Gyokeres was the leading scorer of 2024, concluding the year with an astonishing total of 52 goals.

Remaining with Sporting for the time being, Gyokeres is anticipated to compete again in 2025, although Erling Haaland may seek to reclaim his title and Kylian Mbappe has made a strong start to the year.

The requirements: Every club goal across all tournaments for teams in Europe’s leading 10 leagues. Minutes per goal serves as your tie-breaker when players have the same number of goals, which, of course, many do at this early stage.

10. Santiago Gimenez [Feyenoord/Milan] – 9 strikes

After demonstrating sufficient talent to secure his major career transition – featuring a Champions League double against Bayern Munich – Gimenez has recently been eliminated from Europe’s top tournament by his old team. Amusing old game.

9. Mo Salah [Liverpool] – 10 strikes

You may have heard he is performing rather well. Salah has netted in eight straight matches spanning three different tournaments, frequently pairing those goals with some astonishing assist.

8. Mateo Retegui [Atalanta)] – 10 strikes

Four goals in a 5-0 victory against Hellas Verona were greatly appreciated. That match isn't an absolute exception, however: it was his second hat-trick in Serie A for the season and brought him to 20 goals in 22 league matches.

7. Robert Lewandowski [Barcelona] – 10 strikes

No indication of the old lad slowing down at 36, scoring in each of his last four La Liga matches since a double in that crazy Champions League encounter at Benfica.

6. Mika Biereth [Monaco] – 10 strikes

As Arsenal struggles to find a striker, one they transferred to Sturm Graz for £4m in the summer has now moved to Monaco and netted three hat-tricks, placing joint-fifth in the Ligue Un Golden Boot standings in a span of seven appearances.

5. Serhou Guirassy [Borussia Dortmund] – 11 strikes

Dortmund's Guirassy breaks into the top four from outside the top 10 after scoring four goals in a 6-0 thrashing of Union Berlin. To be fair, he was performing adequately even prior to that, with four goals in four Champions League matches in 2025.

4. Vangelis Pavlidis [Benfica] – 11 strikes

Few strikers can assert they have netted a hat-trick against Barcelona, but in the end, the goals versus Monaco in the Champions League play-offs will be the most significant.

3. Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid) – 14 strikes

Mbappe is now performing at a top-tier level for the European champions, and it certainly benefits him (for the time being) that he has already participated in a staggering 15 matches for Real Madrid this year. The hat-trick against Manchester City was wonderful, indeed.

2. Youssef En-Nesryi [Fenerbahce] – 16 strikes

Ex-Sevilla forward and West Ham target En-Nesyri is flourishing with Jose Mourinho in Turkey, netting four goals in the Europa League group stage and one in each leg of the play-off triumph over Anderlecht. With four goals in the Turkish Cup and a player trailing just Krzysztof Piatek and Simon Banza in the Super Lig scoring race, he is excelling.

1. Ousmane Dembele [PSG] – 17 strikes

Scoring six times in three Champions League matches – featuring a hat-trick during a 4-1 victory against Stuttgart – can significantly boost your prospects at this point in the year. Dembele netted in the initial eight matches PSG competed in during 2025, frequently scoring multiple goals, including five versus Brest and three against Monaco, having confronted both teams in two distinct tournaments. He then somehow failed to score in a 7-0 victory against Brest but contributed one while coming off the bench in the Coupe de France as PSG achieved the same ridiculous score once more.
