Setback for Arsenal as Gabriel is out for the season due to injury ‘needing surgery’

Arsenal's defender Gabriel Magalhaes will be sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury that necessitates surgery, confirmed the Premier League team.  The Gunners player suffered a hamstring injury in the first half of their 2-1 win against Fulham in the Premier League on Tuesday night.  Gabriel will now be absent for the remainder of the Premier League season, as Arsenal also strives for the Champions League title with a two-legged quarter-final against Real Madrid starting next week.  In response to the injury following the game, Arteta informed reporters: “Concerned because he always wants to stay on and he had to leave."  "He's uncertain about its size and what it truly is, but he sensed he couldn't go on."  When questioned about Gabriel's fitness for the Champions League match against Real Madrid next week, Arteta responded: “It depends; there’s a week ahead, but given how he usually is… challenging.”  Transfer specialist Fab...

Barcelona decides on return to Camp Nou following construction setbacks.

Amid worries over delays in Camp Nou's development, Barcelona has asked for an extension of their usage of the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium. 

There have been major delays in the renovation of Barcelona's iconic mansion. It was recently disclosed that additional setbacks made it doubtful that they would be able to return until late March at the latest, after plans to return by the end of 2024 were postponed until February 2025. 

Barcelona's predicament stems from UEFA regulations that require teams to host all of their home games during the Champions League knockout stages at the same stadium. Although Camp Nou is not likely to be completed for the round of 16 to begin in early March, Barcelona had not anticipated being there for this long, thus their temporary home was also reserved for Champions League dates later in the season.

Nonetheless, those alternative plans have now failed, and Barcelona has officially asked to utilize the Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium until the season concludes as a backup option if Camp Nou isn't prepared in time. 

"FC Barcelona will request BSM to prolong the occupancy and operation of the Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys until 20 May, although the club's aim to play matches this season at the Spotify Camp Nou still stands," a club statement said. "The Club has discovered that BSM's booking of the venue for a musical event in May will probably not be realized."

Consequently, the lack of confirmation for an event previously booked at the Olympic Ring allows for the chance that FC Barcelona may compete at the Olympic Stadium until the final La Liga game. 

"The Club wants to highlight that the primary goal is to play matches at the Spotify Camp Nou at the season's close, and thus efforts will be strengthened to reach this aim."

There was early speculation that Barcelona's match against Real Madrid for the second Clasico of the season might be relocated to Wembley, because Rolling Stones concerts are reportedly scheduled for 10 May and 15 May at the Olympic Stadium—the first one occurring the day before the match is set to happen.
